In recent times we have been subject to attacks from the IRA who have caused scores of deaths to innocent people and £billions of damage. Many years ago I was sitting in a resturant in London and a bomb exploded a few doors away resulting in the death of two people. Had I been in that resturant who knows whether I would still be here. You maybe aware that many American Irish have donated money to the 'cause' which assisted the IRA in their campaign. We trust the American people will be more cautious and include the IRA in their list of terrorists and cease their financial support. Unwittingly maybe but American money has killed many innocent British civilians. |

We just couldn't believe that something of this scale could happen to America in U.S. soil. America is the strongest nation in the world and it's policy could not be different than applying its will to the rest of the world. This happened before with the British and other great powers. U.S. helped a lot of people in the past 50 years but has hurt a lot too. A U.S. citizen cannot understand the effect, for example, of Clinton administration to parts of the world. Greece has now many Serbian immigrants but Albanians too. The Balkans is in unrest the last 8 years and America played a major role to this with its rash policy of bombing nations. There are thousands of innocent Iraqi children dying from simple diseases or starvation. I hope this will not happen with Afghanistan too. (Zilla note: author is referring to email #013) We are a small island but i am proud to say that we opened our arms to the many Americans, not to mention those of many other nationalities, while the air lines were grounded. The only thing that I really want to say is that I understand your country's pain, as it is a pain that is shared by the world. What I mean is that the tragedy of September 11th was not an American one but a human one. It was a tragedy that ended the innocent lives of men, women and children from many countries, many religions, and ethnic groups. What they held in common was their humanity, and that is something that is precious beyond any measure. I see letters on your web page discussing which countries have done what in the past, and who will do what in the future. To me this kind of talk is rubbish,and moreover it is dangerous. I myself have questioned American policy in the past but this is not about policy, this is about an act of evil that has soiled the fabric of humanity. In other words, it was an act of evil. Pure and simple. I understand the need for patriotism and its unifying power at such a trying time, but I urge all Americans to see themselves at this time as part of the larger picture of the human race. Let us grieve together as a planet, not as Christians, or Muslims, or Italians, or Canadians, or Americans. Let us take the only possible good that we can garner from such a tragedy, and that is that we can all see each others tears and witness the compassion and humanity that we all share. I'm a vet also......although I got sent to Germany instead of Nam...and I'm both mad as hell and sad...sad for all the victims and their families, and sad as well for all the Americans who will die in this war. It'll be a lot like Nam in some ways. How will we tell the good guys from the bad guys when we go in somewhere, mainly. It has to be done, and we'll do it. But, a bombing campaign won't do shit; we'll have to send in ground troops and we will take casualties. I expect small unit actions mostly, such as Ranger/Green Beret type ops. I hope that there won't be too many casualties, but we will have losses. We can expect the fools who did this to continue their attacks here, as well; and more civilians will die as well as the soldiers who make the attacks...it won't be cheap. In any way.
